Music

I always write and grade papers with music in the background.

Current Selections:

  • Jimmy Greene, “Beautiful Life” (Jimmy Greene Music Works)
    Sample “Beautiful Life”
“Beautiful Life” was composed and recorded by Jimmy Greene as a memorial for his daughter Ana, who was 6 years old when she and 19 other first graders were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The words “remember me” are repeated twenty times, once for each child who lost a life. The sample above includes selections from “Maybe” and “Little Voices.”
Produced by Jimmy Greene Music Works: Jimmy Greene, saxophonist, with Anika Noni Rose, Tony Award Winner.
  • Paul Robeson, A Lonesome Road (Academy Sound and Vision) and Songs of Free Men (Sony)
    Sample “Ezekiel Saw the Wheel”
    Sample “Balm in Gilead”
  • Henry Purcell, Funeral Sentences (Harmonia Mundi)
  • Lil Nas X, Old Town Road (original and with Billy Ray Cyrus Remix.
This country-rap, hip-hop song with country-subject-matter song was only reluctantly played on country radio and banned from Billboard’s country singles chart. It became the #1 song in the nation and is interesting because it is a cross cultural genre mix and exposed prejudices and an identity crisis in the country music establishment.

  • Eric Clapton, “San Francisco Bay Blues”
    Sample “San Francisco Bay Blues”
  • Joseph Hayden, Nelson Mass (English Concert Choir)
